Take your dog for a walk prior to loading into car.
No food or drink for at least 2 hrs before travelling.
Carry water and a bowl with you - allow small drinks at stops - don't fill your dog up or there could be an accident.
Get your dog used to the car in gradual stages.
(I can now take "Tiny" [pictured], my 46 kilo Rottweiler x Doberman anywhere with me having the usual stop, revive, short walk and a sniff, survive - every 2 hrs).
Check that the restraint strap on your harness stops the dog short of the front seat. (never use a choker chain or collar)
In your new location, ask about ticks and check dog regularly - I always "Frontline" my dog before going on holiday (ask your vet) - saves the hassle.
Don't leave your dog alone in the car - heat stress can kill -
Put all your dog's goodies in the " " bag, carry a couple of towels.
